Rockland Youth Match Reports - November/ December 2008

Dereham Diamonds 0 – 19 Rocklands Bulldogs

Bulldogs travelled to Dereham for this first leg in the second round of the cup and, although they had the Diamonds pinned into their own half, they missed several early chances to take the lead.  Once the first goal was scored, further followed at regular intervals and by half time Bulldogs were leading 11 – 0. Memorable moments from the first half include a perfect pass from Jonty at right back which put Matty clear to score and also an excellent goal created by Matty as he crossed to Oliver who laid the ball back to Frankie who then drove the ball into the top corner, off the underside of the bar.

Further pressure and goals continued in the second half but an interception and left wing run past several defenders culminating in a thumping drive into the roof of the net by Sam was considered to be the goal of the morning.

Scorers: Ashley (4), Chilly (4), Frankie (4), Oliver (4), Matty (2) and Sam

Matty was awarded Man of the Match by the Diamonds Manager.

Bulldogs 21- 0 Dereham Diamonds (40 - 0 on aggregate)

On a clear, bright Sunday morning, Bulldogs enjoyed a convincing victory.  They dominated the first half from the outset and scored regularly.  Jordan's super strike from distance was memorable and proved to be the first goal of his first-ever Bulldogs' hat-trick.

In the second half Jack scored his first goals of the season -  the first being an excellent chip over the keeper.

The scorers were: Matty(4), Ashley(4), Chilly(3), Jordan(3), Frankie(3), Jack(2), Jonty and Oliver.

Chilly was awarded Man of the Match

Bulldogs 1 – 3 Watton

On a bright but cool Sunday morning, Bulldogs enjoyed a good sporting game of football against Watton.  Bulldogs started well,, passing the ball effectively.  An excellent through ball gave Oliver a chance to race away but a combination of determined defending and an alert keeper saved the day for Waton.  An enormous clearance by Chris put Matty clear and he finished superbly with a shot over the keepers head into the net.  The Watton keeper made two more fine saves from Oliver, which proved to be significant since, after several good saves, Chris was eventually beaten when a Watton forward broke.

In the second half Watton had the advantage of he wind and Bulldogs faded. An excellent long-range shot and a header which left Chris unsighted sealed Bulldogs fate.

Matty, playing against many of his school friends had an excellent match, as did Chris, who was awarded Man of the Match by the Watton manager.
